Existing Land Utilization Pattern - Idle Land or Grasslands

Large portions of San Jose del Monte are idle lands or grasslands. One major reason is the City's undulating to rolling terrain (18-30 percent slope) that are primarily located at its middle and eastern sections. In particular, the section of the City that is located east of Quirino Highway comprising Barangays Sto. Cristo, Tungkong Mangga, Kaybanban, San Roque, Paradise III, and San Isidro are currently generally undeveloped. This sluggish trend of development is also due to the fact that large portions of these barangays are lands owned by two non-resident clans. They comprise almost half of the section. Most of these lands are currently held in reserve while some portions are used for agricultural purposes in the cultivation of permanent commercial crops such as mangoes and other fruit trees.

Idle lands could also be seen in areas with friendlier terrain (west of Quirino Highway). These areas could be observed in the barangays along the thoroughfares of the City. Some of these lands were previously used for agricultural purposes but now have been reclassified to other uses. Right now, they are lying lie idle and awaiting developments.
