Existing Land Utilization Pattern - Agricultural Areas

As culled from the City's 2001 Socio-Economic Profile, there are currently about 2,495 hectares of lands utilised for agricultural crop production. This figure excludes backyard fishpond, livestock and poultry farms. About 648 hectares of these are planted with palay and about 933 hectares are planted with permanent commercial crops (i.e. mango, banana, citrus, coconut, guyabano, etc.). The rice paddies of the City are mostly located on its flat western portions while the other agricultural areas are on the lands at the other side of Quirino Highway. Out of the City's 66 commercial livestock and poultry farms, 20 are located in Tungkong Mangga, 14 in Gaya-Gaya and 12 in Muzon. Currently, of all the barangays of San Jose del Monte, only Barangay Kaybanban has been identified as an Agrarian Reform Community.

In the period of 1995-2001, about 546 hectares of agricultural lands were re-classified to residential, light industrial and agro-industrial land uses. Almost all of these were developed into subdivisions. Table 4.3 shows the location of these lands and some of their developers.
